The Georgian cordial glass dates to 1740 and is a rare example of a balustroid cordial glass with masonic interest. The cordial glass comprises of round funnel bowl with engraved beehive surrounded by bees with laurels and flowers either side, falling down onto plain stem with basal knop at the base of stem, resting on a conical foot with sharp snapped off pontil. The balustroid cordial glass is a fabulous example being quite rare in the cordial glass form with the added benefit of having masonic interest as the beehive and bees is a masonic symbol associated with the freemasons. The condition of the cordial glass is good with no chips, cracks or restoration. Please see pictures for condition. My interests started to grow and started to collect and read all about glass and started to collect 18th & 19th Century wine glasses, decanters, claret jugs, engraved glass, coloured glass, decorative glass, contemporary glass, British glass, Italian glass, French glass, Scandinavian glass and more categories in glass. I simply have a passion for anything made out glass. I have been lucky to find some fabulous items and have entered these interesting glass articles into exhibitions and books. I always look at a piece of glass such as an early drinking glass and think what stories you could tell and that’s what makes glass collecting so interesting as everything has a story to tell.
