Used Thornes Warre bee hive. After many trials with a variety of hives he designed his own, the Warre Hive (also known as the Ruche Populaire or Peoples Hive). Made from English Cedar, the hive comprises. A floor with splayed legs and integral varroa mesh floor. 1 brood body with observation window. 40 used plain top bars. A deep quilt with hessian cover and woodshaving insulation. A plain canvas quilt. Timber is 24mm thick. The hive has been used but is in good condition (see photos). Three box, modified design with extra thick walls, complete hive includes floor, quilt box, quilt, and roof. Hive has been successfully used and attracted a swarm which moved in, so attractive to bees. This is a home made item, using wood over 35mm thick for extra insulation and with slightly deeper boxes at 230mm deep. Overall height is approx. All boxes have an entrance hole, so that the top box can be put on the bottom after honey harvest. Bees seemed to prefer the higher entrance, but they can easily be closed as needed. This is a WBC style Victorian hive, which is the model most people think of in terms of bee hives. Unlike the box hives, this is a double layered system that is well insulated and dry. This is an old inherited hive and presumed to be at least 50yrs old possibly a lot older! Great condition, robust and solidly built and freshly painted inside and out. This is a big heavy hive that would be lovely as a garden ornament or focal feature. However, its also fully usable and comes with. 1 x Hive stand, complete with entrance and solid base. 4 x lifts (lower lift has attached porch). 1 x traditional roof with vents front and back. Very heavy and thick wood. 1 x brood chamber. 2 x supers (honey levels). 1 x queen excluder. 1 x crown board with holes for bee escapes. This is collection only. I could attach to a pallet but I think that would be an expensive option. Around 107 high and lifts are roughly 52cm square. This is a beautiful, well built and historical hive and would look superb in any garden. (A couple more hives of different style are currently being refurbished and will be listed shortly).
