The Langstroth beehive is an overlapping beehive designed according to the egg laying power, colony potential, living habits and management requirements of western bees. It consists of a door panel, a sub-cover box cover and a partition. The roof is equipped with a galvanized metal cap for rain-proof, wind-proof and sunproof, so it can provide a more secure house for your bees. There is ample space for spawning and storage of nectar. Langstroth beehive adopts a low and wide frame with a low spleen surface, so it is not easy to squeeze dead bees when extracting and inserting the spleen, and it is also very convenient to turn the spleen over. This is the second Smith beehive I have for sale, see my other listing. 1 x Brood box. 1 x Queen Excluder. 1 x Vented Floor. 1 x Crown Board. Just a note about Smith hives. The design is similar to a Langstroth, but with a capacity the same as a standard National hive. The hive boxes are lighter than the National equivalent and more popular in the north of England and Scotland where hives are often moved to the heather and their relatively light weight is an advantage. They will take National frames if the top bar is reduced slightly in length. So you can still use National frames, and reduce the length of the top bars with a saw/ Jig-saw. Smith boxes are rectangular and for storage you can fit 2 empty supers + 2 crown boards + 2 queen excluders end on, inside two empty brood boxes stacked on top of one another. You can’t do that with National boxes, and it does save storage space.
