The evergreen white pine or ladin belongs to the pine family and is one of the most common conifers. It can reach up to 50 meters and therefore it is the highest local tree in Turkey. The trunk can be up to 2 meters thick. It is characterized by a straight and rapid growth and it adapts easily to its natural environment. These trees can last about 200 years. The white pine wood of the Black Sea is very light light-coloured when untreated and turns into a yellowish-brown when exposed to sunlight. Turkish White Pine can be worked very well and widely used in production of furniture and beehives. White pine is the most common wood used in beehives in the Black Sea region of Turkey where the climate is nearly the same as the UK. Anzer Honey produced in Black Sea in ladin beehives. White pine grows in many parts of the country but especially the Black Sea region. We used Kastamonu white pine in our beehives. Historically this area was called. And was known as the main source of shipyard timber from Romans to Ottomans. We tried to use as much knot free wood as possible. It has small amount of resin and takes many oil base finishes and paintings. Glue bonding and surface treatment properties are good. Even left untreated the white pine very rarely allows moisture to pass through. It is known to be good at ventilation for beehives. The wood is durable on facades. All the bee spaces are correct, and it has been painted using 3 coats of Cuprinol outdoor paint, so it will last a long time. Entrance unit (half mesh, best of both worlds, underfloor entrance). A Beautiful Full National with Gabled roof. Our Great Beginners Kit inc Frames and Wax. We are going away for Christmas so any orders placed now will be built after we return in the new year. Happy Christmas to you all. We love our garden as well as our bees and believe a bee hive should be part of the garden furniture and nice to look at. Most hive are just wooden boxes and do nothing for the look of your garden. So I built my hives so that when friends and family visit it adds to the experience if I show them my bees in a special hive. I have been keeping bees for years and I have always built my own bee hives and as Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses might say During the Lockdown I built several more to keep me busy during lockdown. My hives proved quite popular and after I stopped making them I still had enquires asking when I would make them again. Well, now with another lockdown pending here I go again. I always thought about making a Christmas batch and will probably keep going this time. Have a Question or want to add to your order? Our hives are partly built with only the roof being flat packed. The hives are built from 19mm hardwood external ply and painted in Cuprinal Garden colours and are screwed together. This Kit includes the frames and foundation. These need to be built and are flat packed because they are too delicate when to send when they are complete. Full instructions with photos are included.
