Situated right up against Italy and in the French Alps, this region is very famous for its rustic pottery. Different primitive floral motifs are very popular. Sliipware is the term used to describe this type of exterior painting. It is thicker and has a three-dimensional quality. It is made by using ground up pieces of glaze mixed in with fresh glaze that is painted on the outside of the pottery piece in traditional patterns. This pitcher is medium in size and A classic representation of pottery from this region around the time of the early 1900s and Late 1800s. Antique 19th Century EDMANDS & CO Salt Glaze Bee Hive Jug w/ Cobalt Blue Floral. Edmands & Co was located in Charlestown Mass and operated from around 1850 to 1865. Charlestown was famous for its earthenware. There were huge clay deposits in the area and early potters used the clay from these pits to make their pots. This jug is a wonderful example of Edmands & Co stoneware. It is a 2 gallon bee hive shaped jug with a wonderful free hand cobalt floral. The jug is in very good condition. There is one minor flaw on the front of the jug (see photos). Other than this, I can find no cracks or chips. A truly wonderful piece of early stoneware. STUNNING Early MCCOY STONEWARE POTTERY BEEHIVE RINGED RIBBED BLENDED MAJOLICA GLAZE DRIP JARDINIERE PLANTER. Vivid Green Brown Yellow & Blue Glaze. Measures a large 9 3/4 inches tall, 12 inches across the widest point and 7″ diameter at the base (10 3/4″ diameter at the top). Unmarked (except for the number “2” on bottom) but these early stoneware items were not marked by McCoy, as shown in the Sanford Guide to McCoy Pottery. Nice condition with one 1 hairline (see photos #10 and #11), crazing and other surface marks (see photos). There are a couple factory glaze pops, simply from the early handmaking and glaze application. The beauty of early McCoy! Dates to 1920 to 1930 timeframe. Antique Salt Glaze Stoneware Beehive Pottery Jug. Wonderful Antique Stoneware Jug with a salt glaze. This piece has a handmade handle and a raised lip around the rim. The glaze creates a great speckled Gray and Brown color. This piece is in good condition for it’s age, but does have 1 crack starting on the bottom up the sides about 2/3 of the way (see Photos). This does not detract from the look of the crock as it is hard to see. It also has a small chip on the rim(see Photos). The Jug is marked with the letter A on the side. The size is 12″ in height and measures 7″ across the base. The rim is 2″ and the opening is 1 1/4″. It would make a lovely addition to your collection of antique stoneware. Dates to 1920’s timeframe. Super mission arts and crafts style form! SIZE : Total height is 28 Tall. Base at widest point is about 10 across and 18-1/2 tall. Jardiniere is 11 wide 9-1/2 tall. CONDITION : A couple tiny flea chips to just the glaze see pics. No cracks or hairlines, very clean and crazing is light and uniform. Has the commonalities of any early handmade stoneware pottery of the early molding and glaze characteristics, the beauty of early McCoy – very lovely find! Dates to early 1920’s timeframe.
