This is a brand new standard 6 frame National Paynes nuc that I have modified by removing the side feeder enabling them to hold 8 frames instead of 6. I use these as my honey producing hives, they are also great for making splits, rearing mated queens, catching swarms and would you believe rearing nucs! D The side feeder is cut out and two side plugs are made out of the removed centre piece then shaped to fill in the feeder ends and extend the runners, siliconed in place which enables the hive to hold the 8 frames. The addition of a Paynes extension brood box on top modified in a similar way then allows the hive to hold 16 brood frames in an 8 over 8 configuration which is an ideal size for a brood nest, essentially giving them the “Brood and a half” brood nest volume with the added bonus of all of the brood nest being on brood frames. I then add a queen excluder and fit super on top. No bees included, or at least not intentionally!

From a very high density material, 120g/litre – up to 4 times stronger than the poly used for packaging. This gives the nucs great durability, able to withstand hive tools and the usual beehive inspections. It’s lightweight properties will mean it is easier to handle too – great for those bad backs! Its insulation properties also makes it ideal for beehives as less bees are required to maintain the heat required for effective brood rearing, helps improve overwintering successes and giving you an earlier spring buildup. ALREADY BUILT No faffing around with this nuc. The base component is one piece moulded so there are no weak joints and very minimal assembly needed before you add your bees. Just give your nuc a lick of paint and screw the entrance disc to the front (supplied), then you are ready to go! EXPANDABLE The poly nuc has a range of extra that are available separately, enabling you to convert the nuc into so much more! Add an additional extension box on top to give the queen more room to lay in. Or, how about adding a queen excluder and a super so you can start collecting honey from it, without having to use a full size hive or moving them around.

Paynes Poly Beehive Langstroth Nuc (with side feeder). Our 6 frame poly Langstroth nuc with removable side feeder. Takes 6 x langstroth brood frames with the side feeder, or remove the feeder to take 8 frames. It has an open mesh floor to help with varroa control and to help with ventilation during transit. Comes with 4 feet to keep the hive off the ground, wooden float for the feeder, a disc entrance for easier control of the entrance and a clear cover board for easy viewing without completely opening up the hive. Polystyrene is a great material for beehives. Its made from a very high density material, 100g/litre – upto 3 times stronger than the material used for packaging. Its lightweight and durable. Its insulation properties also makes it especially suitable for nucs and small colonies as fewer bees are required to maintain the heat required for effective brood rearing. We will be releasing an extension box for this nuc hive in Summer 2018 which will allow the nuc to expand easily as the colony grows. The roof to the nuc also doubles as a floor when combined with the extension box so you can stack multiple colonies on top of each other.
