Don’t tilt the hive to far no need and could tip the beehive. Take a note of the reading. Multiply the reading by 0.17 this will give you the weight in kg of hive. Getting a scale to work from. The weight on scale is a reference point not a hive weight. Simply weigh a hive after a split or a very small collony this will give you you’re minimum hive weight. Inspect a full hive with full stores ie winter ready and take a note of maximum weight. This will give you an accurate scale to work from and take the guessing away. Be aware different hive types and components will have different weights. Most hives and parts will be roughly the same within reason. If you’re unsure use a empty hive and test the different components, mark the parts with weights + or – for correction later. With supers simply weigh a full one with capped honey and add it to the full hive weight. Before you get close to the combined weight add a empty super on and continue the process.
