National Cedar Beehive with Pine Roof Fully Assembled

Complete National Cedar Beehive, Good Quality Varroa floor, Brood box, slotted steel Queen excluder, Two Supers, Universal Crown Board, and a Pine roof with metal cover. These are cedar hives, fully assembled, made up from second grade timber, in the bee shed over the winter. Second grade timber has a specific definition, and has more knots and visual blemishes than first grade timber character! Cedar can be left unpainted and weathers to a natural grey finish, or they can be treated with an oil or water based paint. It is extremely durable and naturally rot resistant. The hive is fully assembled, using waterproof glue and nails. I use Pine roofs, because they are heavier than cedar and withstand high winds in winter. The Varroa floor is very good quality, with a durable wipe clean insert, and entrance block. The universal crown board is deeper on one side than the other to allow space for varroa treatment and feeding. Any questions please ask. To the traditional BS National bottom Bee spaced design. 1 x Beehive stand. (stand will require a degree of assembly, holes are pre-drilled & 12 screws included). 1 x Open mesh floor with entrance block and plywood pull out inspection board. 1 x Standard National brood box with metal runners. 2 x National super boxes with metal runners. 1 x Crownboard with feeder hole and plug. 1 x 4 vented roof. 1 x slotted metal Queen excluder. 11 x DN4 Frames and diagonally wired foundation. 1 x DN4 Dummy board. 22 x SN4 Frames and diagonally wird foundation. My Beehives are made using British Cedar and plywood products sourced from UK FSC Forestry Suppliers and contain no plastic. Woodgrains and colour of the Beehive you receive may differ to those in the description pictures. Alternatively you can collect from my workshop near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. As with every handcrafted wood product the Beehive you receive is made to close tolerances but may differ fractionally in size and also in colour and woodgrain to that in the description.

These beehives are made from 100% natural cedar wood without any edge joining or gluing so the t. Imber may have solid live knots visible. We bought the timber from off-cut of a palace decoration. Timber was specially sun dried for 3/4 years to get the traditional outcome. You can sense the wonderfully soft aromatic smell from distance. Our beehives have a lot of personality and the natural knots provide a more rustic look and define the visual character of each of them. Each and every hive is different. You can name them differently as well. The knots in the wood are intact, sound and tight (if there is any issue please let us know). All wood is checked prior to packaging but if you see any capillary cracks please dont worry as they wont get any bigger. Its normal with this wood. As said we did not use any glue or chemicals to fill them in. A brush of teak oil or linseed oil can solve the issue if it occurs in many parts. We are environmentally friendly people. No chemicals were used while making these beehives. These beehives are produced by local carpenters who use traditional methods as well as modern machinery (cedar dried naturally first and then sometimes oven dried as well). Each piece is made from a single timber as we did not use machine pressing (edge joining) that involves chemicals and strong glues. Rarely we used wood filler as we avoided edge joining and wood pressing. Our timber was produced from sustainable forests in Southern Turkey- from the legendary Taurus Mountains (where Santa Claus comes from). You can leave these hives as it is or use linseed or teak oil to give them a fine finish. In home furniture they use these two types of oils. If you have a lot of free time you can do it for fun. Cedar is pitch free and perfectly suited to take virtually any stain, finish (or even bleaching) product, giving the beekeeper or builder myriad choices on the final look. What is so special about cedar wood? Cedar wood is widely known for its wonderful aroma and insect-repelling quality. The natural oil inside the wood emits an earthy, woodsy and slightly sweet scent that has made it a favourite choice for wooden water crafts, beehives, interior home furniture, hot tubs, saunas, and even within the sensory palette of your favourite colognes. Cedar wood is solid, durable and by far the best wood for the UK weather for beekeepers. There can be some natural capillary cracks but they will not get any bigger. They will last many many years.
