HARD TO FIND and fantastic antique lamp. Sure to make a statement in your collection! Dates to around the 1920’s. Great character with its nude lady with blanket and its frosted Beehive glass globe. Great condition with very little signs of age. (see pictures) The globe has no chips or cracks. Works as it should with no issues. Cord is in good shape with no shorts. The switch is on the cord. 11″ wide, 10″ tall, and 6 deep. The lamp has had some work that dates to around the 1960’s. It has been refinished, quite well, in gold. The bottom material looks to be a replacement. When is the next time one of these will come up for sale? It will be protected well and insured. Let me know if you have questions. LANGSTROTH S L O V E N I A N B E E H I V E S 2 story + 1 story with 2/3 frames. This newly designed and manufactured hive allows all users of Langstroth size frames to have the advantages of the well known Slovenian AZ hive. This means that in many parts of the world beekeepers will be able to house their colonies in hives where the lifting of heavy boxes can become a thing of the past and where the bees can be examined at a convenient height without bending. Additionally, the hives are ideal for keeping bees in shelters or bee houses where extra protection can be given to them. This means that on opening a hive less heat is likely to escape from the colony, the bees are exposed to less direct sunlight. And shielded from cold winds. Indeed, almost under any weather conditions the colonies can be worked despite the weather which is extremely important when time related examinations need to be done as in the cases of swarm prevention and queen rearing. Many colonies can be kept side by side, or on two levels, enabling beekeepers to have. A large apiary within a very small space. The hives also give greater security to colonies than those free standing in an apiary. Until recently, beekeepers wishing to keep their bees in Slovenian hives had the problem of trying to transfer colonies from frames of other sizes, or await a swarm. Creation of this modified. A metal grill queen excluder is provided which can be placed beneath the second or third level, and below the bottom set of frames there is a tray which can be removed so that a varroa trap can be utilised. Each of the sections has a removable, mesh screen at the back, two of which also incorporate a feeder. The bees can be fed without disturbing the bees in any way. Whilst each level has an entrance, each can be closed or left open according to the strength of the colony and the weather conditions. The main body of the hive is made in strong pine, the back door closes to darken the hive and to keep in the heat, though two hinged portions – one at the top and the other at the bottom, can be opened for extra ventilation should it be needed. The bottom hive entrance has a hinged, partly mesh alighting board, which can be closed and allows ventilation should the colony need to be moved. The other two openings can be closed with. Antique Porcelain German Beer Stein Royal Vienna Beehive Mark Rinaldo and Armida signed Kaufmann c. Description: Beautiful highly decorated porcelain beer stein depicting several scenes on ancient subjects. The decorations are beautifully hand-painted, very intensively gilt and has some enamel relief elements. The lid is made of brass mounts with porcelain incert that is also hand-painted on the inside and outside. I think the theme of the painting is a scene from the epic poem “Gerusalemme liberata” by Torquato Tasso. It tells the story of Rinaldo and Armida. In this poem Rinaldo is a fierce and determined warrior who is also honorable and handsome. Armida has been sent to stop the Christians from completing their mission and is about to murder the sleeping soldier, but instead she falls in love. She creates an enchanted garden where she holds him a lovesick prisoner. Overall – a fantastically decorated piece – a one of a kind treasure. The steins of this kind are usually called “Royal Vienna” style. Even though the original “Imperial and Royal Vienna Porcelain Factory” was closed in 1864. Some of the smaller factories in Austria were given their molds and employed their artists. They continue to use the Bindenschild mark. The Bindenschild mark is often called “Beehive” because when turned upside down it resemples the beehive. However, this is a German heraldic element, a shield taken from the Coat-of-Arms of Austrian Hapsburg family. The decoration is signed “Kaufmann”. This is the signature for Angelika Kaufmann, an artist who seemed to have worked for several factories that made items in Royal Vienna style in 1870s-1900. The brass mounts – the hindge and the thumblift – indicate that the stein was made in early 1870s even though traditionally these steins are dated as ” around 1900″. Some very similar steins are featured on pages 129-131 0f “The Beer Stein Book” by Gary Kirsner. It looks like the inlay of the lid was repaired at some point. The repairs were done very professionally and are very hard to determine. The body of the stein is in excellent flawless condition, there is some wear to the gold on the handle, but no damage, lines or repairs of any kind.
